Sports Marketing student, Mataio Lesa, sat down with Provo’s cross country runner, John Hunter. John, a junior, is making noise in the region with top ten finishes. Here’s what he had to say.
Why did you first choose to do cross country?
Probably because I was really good at it and my whole family ran. As I progressed in my running then I started to enjoy it more and just stuck to it.
What would be the ultimate goal for you to achieve in cross country this year?
The ultimate goal would be to win state, but for now the goal is to win region and get top 10 at state.
What is your fastest race time?
15:59 for a 3 mile course
What is your greatest accomplishment as an athlete?
Getting to state as a team sophomore year. We only won by half a point (we honestly thought we might get last) and it really showed how dedicated the team was to the sport.
How would you say your performance has been so for this season?
It’s been pretty good, I would say I’m on course for my goal and have stayed injury free.
