A successful meet for the Provo High swim team in Bountiful was culminated with a record-breaking performance on Saturday by Kaden Staker. Kaden smashed the existing 100yd backstroke record by over a second (lowering it from 57.05 to 55.73). Congratulations Kaden on setting yet another Provo High swim record!
The backstroke is an interesting event. At elite levels backstrokers swim over half the race under water. It takes years of training, tremendous physical conditioning and flawless technique but Kaden is one of the few swimmers in the state that can do it very well.
His record-setting race was beautiful to watch! He had a tremendous start, a powerful stroke above the water, well-timed and technically-sound flip turns, and of course his under water swimming ability stood out among the top swimmers in the state (over 30 teams and 1,000 swimmers were at the meet).
